Corporate Headquarters and Liquid Egg Processing Operation

Seen from a bird's eye view, the Golden Oval Eggs
layer processing complex doesn't give a clue as to the activity inside. Housed in the walkway-connected
sixteen barns are two million layer hens (and an occasional late developing rooster).

In this temperature-controlled, fully automated feeding and watering system, hens produce 1.4 million eggs per day. These eggs gently roll to a conveyor belt that delivers the eggs within minutes to the processing facility in the building in the foreground. Eggs are cleaned, broken, yolks separated from whites, stored in stainless steel tanks, and shipped out to customers, all within hours.

Dedicated employees tend to the flock, checking the birds, barns, and equipment on a regular basis throughout the work shift. At night, the sanitation and security crew take over, so the plant is ready for processing early the next day.

The corporate offices of Golden Oval Eggs are located at the processing operation. United Mills, located just a mile west of Golden Oval Eggs' Renville site, is jointly owned by Golden Oval, Coop Country Farmers Elevator and Christensen Family, LLC.

When Golden Oval Eggs sought to expand production, it accepted the invitation of Iowan farmers to build a state-of-the-art layer egg production complex in Winnebago County near the town of Thompson. Located in north-central Iowa, the site was first determined in May 1999. Construction began in September and production began August 2000.

Golden Oval Eggs planned the construction of the complex in two phases. The first phase, or East Half, began production in 2000. Construction of
the last additional barns was completed in January 2006. The Iowa complex built its own feedmill on the site and production began in early September 2004.  Golden Oval Eggs also began processing the shell by-products of its liquid egg production
on site, into poultry feed.

This operation employs more than 180 people
and consumes the corn production of tens of thousands of acres.
